We've been collecting old guns, mainly Winchesters, for a long time and we never could get a gunstock stain that was easy to work with and actually came out with the right color. Oh, lots of them are advertised, but they never work. SO we just concocted our own. It worked so simple and authentic we were amazed. This product is alcohol based. That means it dries fast. It works well with an oil or a varnish finish.

TAPADERA'S N-35 AND N-35B WORK GREAT AS TOUCH UP TO OLD STOCKS, OR AS THE PRIMARY STAIN ON NEW WOOD. YOU'LL FIND YOU CAN MATCH ANY WINCHESTER COLOR.

EACH PIECE OF WALNUT STAINS A LITTLE DIFFERENT . . . so first, SELECT THE COLOR YOU ARE AIMING FOR . If you have a scrap of walnut, test your N-35 or N-35B on it.

OLD STAIN WILL AFFECT THE COLOR . . . IF YOU APPLY OUR STAIN OVER WINCHESTER STAIN, YOU WILL FIND THE COLORS WILL MATCH PERFECTLY, BUT IF SOMEONE STAINED YOUR GUN WITH A DIFFERENT PRODUCT, OUR COLORS COULD VARY SOME FROM THE ABOVE SAMPLE. You might want to test N-35 on a "hidden" spot on your gun to see how the color comes out.

IF YOU NEED TO APPLY THE STAIN OVER OLD VARNISH . . . DULL THE VARNISH FIRST WITH A LIGHT BUFF USING 0000 STEEL WOOL.

FOR BEST RESULTS – ALWAYS USE A SEALER ON BARE WALNUT BEFORE YOU APPLY N-35 or N- 35B – Any sealer will work, we use a very like coat of high gloss spray varnish as a sealer and buff it lightly after drying.

FOR A LIGHT COLORED FINISH – . A QUICK coat means put a quarter-size dab of stain on a clean rag OR a soft piece of leather (like the tongue of an old shoe). Wipe it on and wipe it off immediately. (Be sure and wear some rubber gloves. N-35 and N-35B will color your fingers a nicotine yellow color.) This gives a nice light finish that will match many newer guns. Repeat the process and it will get a little darker. You can do this several times until it is just where you want it.

FOR A DARK STAIN FINISH – On older guns that need a dark finish, apply Tapadera’s N-35 or N-35B with a foam brush to your gun stock. Let the solution dry on the wood before you buff it with a clean rough rag or soft leather. You will have a very nice dark color . . . if you need it darker, repeat this, always allowing N-35 to dry before buffing. It dries in 3 to 5 minutes. N-35 and N-35B are alcohol based stains.

AFTER YOU BUFF IT WITH A CLEAN RAG - If we need a little shine in the surface, we rub it down by hand with some dark walnut furniture oil . . . the kind you can get at the hardware store. At times, we just rub it with gun oil, depending on the condition of the wood we are trying to match. While N-35 dries in just minutes, we like to leave it overnight before rubbing in the oil finish or applying a quality varnish. If we want a varnish finish to match the rest of the wood, we use DEFT gloss spray varnish. One spray coat of varnish, left to dry, then buffed will normally match the finish on the rest of the Winchester.

TO FIND YOUR EXACT COLOR, YOU MIGHT WANT TO MIX AND MATCH THE TWO STAINS. WE CAN REPRODUCE EVERY COLOR ON ALL OF OUR OLD WINCHESTERS using N-35 or N-35B or a mixture of the two.

Many have found our stain perfect for their military guns, as well as other older firearms. We invented I for our own use . . . and bottle a limited amount to sell to any others who might need a gun stock stain that dries quick, and matches perfectly. Others have used it on furniture, frames and wooden car trim.

IF YOU NEED THE TRADITIONAL GUNSTOCK RED TRY OUR REGULAR N-35
